Christopher Jarman was educated at The Kings School
Canterbury, King Alfreds College Winchester and the Universities of Leicester and London.
He spent eight years as a Naval Officer, flying with the Fleet Air Arm and twenty eight
years in primary education as teacher, headteacher, county adviser and teacher trainer. He
now works as a Freelance Artist & Writer.
In 1989 Christopher took early retirement in order to write and paint. In 1993 a friend
suggested that he should buy an Acorn Computer! After a year of experimenting with
an A4000, he upgraded to a RiscPC. He began by designing a set of fonts which have gone
into PD. He tentatively sent some Artworks files to the Acorn magazines and his work
has been in demand ever since. He is a testament to any other old buffer who wants
to make a late start with computers!
Christopher Jarman's style is traditional. He believes in good
firsthand observational drawing as a basis for creativity. His preferred medium for
painting is watercolour, and he likes to use charcoal and red conté crayons for life
drawing.
He has a fondness for ships and aeroplanes, but believes that everything is difficult to
draw, so he will have a go at anything. His first astonishment in 1993 at what the
computer enables an artist to do, has not left him. It is unlikely that he will ever be
dragged away from the screen!
